     Arthur Viets was born on 22 September 1869 at Yarmouth, Yarmouth Co, NS, under the name Veits.1,2 He was the son of Edward Martin Viets and Mary E. Shaw. Arthur Viets married Marguerite Alice Crowdis, daughter of William Pierce Crowdis and Isabelle C. Watson, on 30 December 1919 at Sydney, Cape Breton Co, NS; aged 46 (sic, he) and 26y (she) both of Sydney.3 Arthur Viets died on 30 August 1934 at Yarmouth, Yarmouth Co, NS; aged 64y 11m 8d, from a heart attack.2 He was buried on 1 September 1934 at Mountain Cemetery, Yarmouth, Yarmouth Co, NS.2
     He appeared on the census of 1910 at New York, New York Co, NY; aged 40y.4 He was a dentist in 1910.4 He arrived at Halifax, NS, aboard the SS Minnekahda from England on 14 September 1919, listed as a Captain in the Canadian Army Dental Corps with a residence in Yarmouth.5 He resided in 1934 at Herkimer, NY.2
