Rae MacCollum Spencer1

     Rae MacCollum Spencer was born on 9 July 1887 at Milford, MA.1 He was the son of Rev Hezekiah Albert Spencer and Caroline Foster Whidden.1 Rae MacCollum Spencer married Ruth Irene Dunton, daughter of William H. Dunton and Alice B. Burrill, on 7 September 1910 at Shrewsbury, MA.2,1 Rae MacCollum Spencer died on 27 May 1972 at Nahant, MA.3,1
     Rae left school at the age of fifteen and started a five-year apprenticeship with Davis Press Inc. of Worcester. His first pay was $3.50 per week, which stated raises of fifty cents per week every six months. Starting as a 'Printer's Devil' in 1902, he spent fifty-eight years (the final twenty-six as president) happily associated with the Davis family for three generations before retiring in 1960.
A member of the First Baptist Church from boyhood, he served on many committees and was responsible for planning numerous financial campaigns. This involvement led to his being a trustee of Andover Newton Theological School for some twenty-five years. On February 7, 1961 he was given the Silver Medal Award as sponsored by the Advertising Federation of America, and Printer's Ink for 'Distinguished Service in the Field'.1 He was the President between 1932 and 1960 at Davis Press Inc., Worcester, MA.1
