Asaph Rice was designated as executor. Of Benjamin Rice, Timothy's will said: "Secondly I will and bequeath to my nephew Benjamin Rice, son of my brother Beriah Rice, the sum of five shillings lawful money of Nova Scotia and no more; for however affectionately disposed toward him I am convinced (with much regret) that acting otherwise would prove a hurt but no benefit to him, and what of his debts I have paid or am bound to pay, it is my will that the payment thereof be considered an ample equivalent to the wages which he may constituted unto for his former work on the farm and that those payments be considered in lieu of ...3 "

William Benjamin Rice married Sarah Jane Welch, daughter of Simon Welch and Nancy Sprague, on 3 November 1862 at Lowell, MI; (1861 per Rice Gen'l Register.)3,1 William Benjamin Rice died on 8 August 1885 at Ionia, MI; (16th per Rice Gen'l Register) his obituary says in part: "Died of typhoid fever August 8, 1885, William Rice of Easton, aged 45 years, 4 months, 24 days. William Rice was born at Ionia on March 11, 1839. He was a son of Calvin Rice, one of the pioneers of Ionia, who survives him. He lived with his parents until he reached the age of 21, when he went to California, remaining there two years. He returned to Ionia in 1862 and in November of that year he married Jane, daughter of Simon Welch. His domestic life was of the happiest. His wife and two sons survive him. Mr. Rice has been for so many years so familiar a figure on our streets that he will be sadly missed. For the past 14 years he has had an office with N.S. Hitchcock. He was a man of strictest integrity, and such that he was frequently called upon to fill positions of trust in the administration of estates and as fiduciary officer in various societies. At the time of his death and for several years previous he held the office of treasurer of the Ionia agricultural society. His death will be a particularly severe loss to that society. He was a democrat in politics and always an active worker though he would never accept an important nomination. He was willing and anxious to work in the ranks, the success of his party being the only reward he coveted. But notwithstanding his active and vigorous political work, he had the respect of all parties and his death will be keenly felt by men of all parties and of all ranks in society. ...4,5,6 " He was buried at Highland Cemetery, Ionia, MI.3
