Sarah Rice was born on 16 August 1751 at Upton, MA.1,2 She was the daughter of Beriah Rice and Mary Goodenow. Sarah Rice married Elias Wheelock, son of Obediah Wheelock and Martha Sumner, circa 1766 at Annapolis Royal, Annapolis Co, NS. In the 1768 census, Elias Wheelock had two males and one female in his household, all American. It seems likely that Elias and Sarah had been married for about two years and the second male was their first son as Sarah Rice's younger brother Joseph was listed separately in the 1768 census. Their first daughter must have been born in or after 1768, not 1766 as given by Ms McCormick. By the 1770 census, Elias had four Americans in his household, most likely Elias, Sarah, and two offspring.3,1 Sarah Rice died after 1821 as she was named in her husband's will.4
The birth order of Sarah's children is uncertain. Your author has attempted some order based on the dates of marriages of children and birth dates of grandchildren where known. Also the census for 1768 & 1770 that suggest that there could be not more than two children born before spring 1770.

Rice of Annapolis and had by her Joseph Troop their son Born 17 July 1826. Sarah his Wife departed this life 26 March 1827."      Sarah Rice was born on 2 August 1826 at Bear River, NS, in her c1973 manuscript, Ms McCormick has a pen and ink correction for Sarah's birth date as 2 August 1826 and Abram's as 18 April 1824, which is most likely. In her 1975 manuscript, Ms McCormick has Sarah's birth date as 15 June 1824. Because her father was deeply religious, this was too soon after her parent's marriage. Sarah's mother would have been four months pregnant when the parents were married.2,1,3 She was the daughter of Deacon Israel Rice and Lois Whitman. Sarah Rice married Abram Banks on 20 June 1848.4,1 Sarah Rice died on 5 January 1913; McCormick has the date as 6 January.4,3

Sarah Rice was of the Parish of Annapolis and Frederick Balser was of the Parish of Wilmot.3

Sarah Rice was born on 28 February 1753 at Westborough, MA.1,3,2,4 She was the daughter of Ebenezer Rice and Anna Rice. Sarah Rice and Aaron Hayden published their marriage intention on 12 May 1777 at Conway, MA; both of Conway.3,2,5
Your authors note that there is an uncertainty in the identity of the Sarah Rice who married Aaron Hayden. There is compelling evidence that this Sarah (WRN 1002) emigrated to Nova Scotia with her parents in 1760, was in her father's household in the 1768 and 1770 census at Annapolis. The Fairn family history in Annapolis County, NS claims this Sarah Rice as their ancestor. Because two of Sarah Rice brothers were living in Conway in the mid 1770s, your authors have followed the line that this Sarah Rice married Aaron Hayden. We are continuing our search for compelling evidence that supports either Aaron Hayden (at Conway) or Benjamin Fairn (at Annapolis).

Thomas Rice was born on 30 June 1654 at Sudbury, MA.4,2,5 He married Anna Rice on 10 January 1681/82 at Marlborough, MA; (literally January 1681 per vital records, 11th month 1681 per Ward, but November 1717 per Rice Gen'l Register, apparently due to careless copying from Ward, who speaks of the 1717 division of Marlborough in the very next phrase). Note that the marriage is found in the published vital records of Marlborough and not those of Sudbury, contrary to the assertion in Rice Supplement 2 Part 1. However, the marriage entry came from the county records and gives only one surname between groom and bride. In any case, the 1717 date is inconsistent with the known children born to this couple.6,2,3,7 Thomas Rice died in 1747; the Boston Gazette claimed Thomas died at age 94. This is presumed to be erroneous, since the same article is demonstrably wrong about the ages of other Rices. However, we have no other, better evidence for his death.6,8
Ward asserts that Thomas had a wife Mary who died at Watertown in 1677, but that was really his uncle Joseph's wife. He resided in 1677 at Marlborough, MA.6 He and Anna Rice lived in the portion of Marlborough that became Westborough.6 He represented the Town of Marlborough for several years in the Massachusetts General Court (legislative assembly) in Boston.6 Thomas Rice and Anna Rice resided after 1717 at Westborough, MA, when part of the Town of Marlborough was set off as Westborough.6 He was one of the original members of the church at Westborough.6
