Horace Rice married Julia Ann Wheat, daughter of Benjamin Wheat Jr and Luana Sprague, on 8 January 1834; Julia of Ontario, NY.1 Horace Rice married Elizabeth (?) on 2 January 1843; Elizabeth of Ohio.1 Horace Rice died in 1852; overland on the way to California.3

Ida Laura Rice married William Henry Thomas, son of James H. Thomas and Sarah Ann Quigley, on 24 December 1871 at Hillsburgh, Digby Co, NS; the marriage license relates: William Henry Thomas, age 20, bachelor, lumberman, residence and born Bear River, son of James H and Sarah Thomas, and Ida Laura Rice, age 19, spinster, residence Bear River, daughter of Israel and Susannah Rice.1,4 Ida Laura Rice died on 10 February 1937.5

     Isaiah Manning Rice was born circa 1859 at Hillsburgh, Digby Co, NS.4,2 He was the son of Robert Rice and Maria Peters.3 Isaiah Manning Rice married Mary Hughes Rice, daughter of Silas Rice and Elizabeth H. Hughes, on 18 May 1881 at Hillsburgh, Digby Co, NS.1,5,2 Isaiah Manning Rice died on 7 December 1907 at Bear River, Annapolis Co, NS.6 The estate was probated on 19 July 1913 at Annapolis Royal, Annapolis Co, NS; to Mary H Rice, widow.6
     He was also known as James Manning Rice.7 He was also known as Fred Manning Rice.8 He appeared on the census of 1881 at Hillsburgh District, Digby Co, NS; with his parents.9 He was a master mariner on 8 April 1891.4 He and Mary Hughes Rice resided on 8 April 1891 at Bear River District, Annapolis Co, NS.4

Deacon Israel Rice1

     Deacon Israel Rice was born on 2 December 1802 at Bear River, NS.2,1,3 He was the son of Thomas Rice and Martha Potter. Deacon Israel Rice married 1st Lois Whitman, daughter of Daniel Whitman and Sarah Kendall, on 29 January 1824.4,1 Deacon Israel Rice married 2nd Susan Crousse, daughter of John Crousse and Sarah E Beeler, on 1 January 1829.1,3 Deacon Israel Rice died on 18 February 1866.2,5,3
     Calnek records him as 'Reverend', but his descendants report that he was not. He was one of the founders of the Bear River Baptist Church in 1821, and became one of their deacons. When a dispute arose regarding the sleep of the dead, Israel became an Adventist, and helped to found that church. He became one of their Elders, and probably did some preaching in both churches, but was never ordained.6

The Rice Gen'l Register and Vernon Spurr have them as sons of Benjamin Rice, an Ebenezer and Anna Rice descendant. Ms McCormick has them as sons of Israel Burpee Rice, a John Rice descendant. The marriage records for Charles Oscar andr James Albert Ricemake it clear that their father was Benjamin Rice.6,7,8

     James Albert Rice was born on 24 October 1860 at Nova Scotia.3 He was born on 23 November 1860 at Lake LaRose, Annapolis Co, NS, On page 1061, the Rice Gen'l Register has the year of birth as 1905/1906. We have a baptism date for 1861.4 He was the son of Benjamin Rice and Eleanor Spurr. James Albert Rice was baptized on 2 June 1861 at Saint Lukes Anglican Church, Annapolis Royal, Annapolis Co, NS; by Rev James J Ritchie, Rector.5 He married Emma Christie Watt, daughter of John Watt and Margaret (?), on 8 August 1883 at Annapolis Royal, Annapolis Co, NS; listed as Albert Rice. His parents were listed as Benjamin and Eleanor Rice.6 James Albert Rice died on 13 June 1937 at Lequille, Annapolis Co, NS.1 He was buried at Saint Albans Cemetery, Lequille, Annapolis Co, NS.7
     He was also known as Albert Rice.2 There is a disagreement about the Rice ancestry of Charles Oscar and James Albert Rice. The Rice Gen'l Register and Vernon Spurr have them as sons of Benjamin Rice, an Ebenezer and Anna Rice descendant. Ms McCormick has them as sons of Israel Burpee Rice, a John Rice descendant. James Albert's baptismal and marriage records shows his father as Benjamin Rice.8

     James Benjamin Rice was born on 8 July 1813, (9th per Rice Gen'l Register.)2,1 He was the son of Asaph Rice and Nancy Elderkin. James Benjamin Rice died on 18 May 1852.1
     He left a will on 27 April 1852 at Annapolis Royal, Annapolis Co, NS, which was recorded 15 June 1852. The will mentioned siblings: William Rice, Mary Emma Rice, John Rice, Asaph Rice, Jeptha Rice, and Timothy Rice deceased. In the court record he was known as Benjamin Rice of Annapolis.3

     Brig Gen James Clay Rice was born on 27 December 1828 at Worthington, MA, (not found in the published records.)1,3 He was the son of William Rice and Welthea Cottrell.1 Brig Gen James Clay Rice was christened on 14 June 1829 at Worthington, MA.4 He married Josephine Thorp on 10 December 1862.2,3 Brig Gen James Clay Rice died on 10 May 1864 at Spotsylvania, VA; in the Battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse.2,3
     He graduated in 1854 at Yale College, New Haven, CT.1 He was in the military circa 1862 enlisting in the 39th New York State Volunteers. Promoted to Brigadier General by President Lincoln for exceptional bravery at Gettysburg. Led the 44th New York Regiment in "7 days battle" before Richmond, VA. Was mortally wounded at Spotsylvania - his last words being: "Turn me over and let me die with my face to the foe."2

     James Edward Rice was born after 1881, as his parents were both enumerated as single in the 1881 census and he was not enumerated.3 He was the son of James E Rice and Lavinia Littlewood.2 James Edward Rice married Nellie M MacLeod.1 James Edward Rice died in 1935. Note that James Edward was not enumerated with his parents in the 1891 census.1

James Ellinwood Rice married Barbara Stout.1 James Ellinwood Rice died in August 1936 at County Hospital, Rochester, Monroe Co, NY; aged 78y 9m 25d, from arteriosclerosis.2 He was buried on 25 August 1936 at plot S 23&24 R133 BC, Mount Hope Cemetery, Rochester, Monroe Co, NY.2

James Franklin Rice married Susan Hardy, daughter of Silas Hardy.1 James Franklin Rice married Eliza Hardy, daughter of Silas Hardy, after 1846; as Eliza is not mentioned as Eliza Rice in her father's will.1,5 James Franklin Rice married Mary Amelia Farnsworth, daughter of John Farnsworth, on 27 June 1887 at Bear River, NS.1,6 James Franklin Rice died in 1900.7 He was buried at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bear River, Annapolis Co, NS.7

However we have a baptism in 1857.2,1 He was the son of Jonas Rice and Avis Euphemia Spurr. James Wilkie Rice was baptized on 4 April 1857 at Parish of Clements, Clements, Annapolis Co, NS; by W M Godfrey at age 2 1/2 months.3 He married Eugenia Parker, daughter of Obadiah Parker and Harriett Rice, on 28 September 1879 at Digby, NS.4,5 James Wilkie Rice died on 25 May 1948 at Bear River, NS.6 He was buried at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bear River, Annapolis Co, NS.7

     Jennie Maud Rice was born circa 1876 at Nova Scotia.3 She was the daughter of James Herman Rice and Irene Rice.1 Jennie Maud Rice married Harry Caldwell Ryerson, son of Wilbur Dunn Ryerson and Helen Augusta Harris, on 10 August 1904 at Cambridge, MA.1,2 Jennie Maud Rice died in 1960 at Westwood, MA.4 She was buried at Needham Cemetery, Needham, MA.4

This was the 2nd marriage for Emma Jane.3,4 Jeptha Rice married 2nd Sarah Rebecca Morse, daughter of John A Morse and Sarah Ann (?), on 10 March 1867 at Annapolis Royal, Annapolis Co, NS.5,6 Jeptha Rice died on 8 September 1911 at Bridgetown, Annapolis Co, NS.7,4

Rice married John James Monroe, son of James Monroe and Martha Brown, on 4 April 1878 at Southborough, MA; aged 28y (he) and 23y (she) listed as John of Framingham and Jessie of Boston.4
     Her married name was Monroe. Jessie W. Rice immigrated in 1875 to USA.2 She appeared on the census of 1880 at Framingham, MA; aged 23y, under the name Munroe.5 She appeared on the census of 1900 at Leominster, MA; aged 54y (sic) under the name Monroe, declaring both of her children to be alive.2
