     Harry Leslie Rice was born on 30 May 1875 at Ionia, MI.2,1 He was the son of William Benjamin Rice and Sarah Jane Welch. Harry Leslie Rice married May Parks on 21 January 1896 at Stanton, MI.2,3 Harry Leslie Rice married Bertha Elzora Wellwood, daughter of Edward Wellwood and Elizabeth (?), on 13 May 1903 at Church of Christ, Ionia, MI.3 Harry Leslie Rice died on 19 September 1948 at Grand Rapids, MI; his obituary said in part: "Harry Leslie Rice, 73, who resided on Yeomans street, died at 3:30 Sunday morning, September 19, in Blodgett hospital, where he was taken a week ago suffering with a kidney infection. Funeral services will be attended Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock at the Myers funeral home on East Main street with burial in Easton cemetery. The Rev. Wayne-Davis will officiate. Mr. Rice was the son of William and Sarah Jane Rice and was born in Ionia in the house on Yeomans street where he has lived. He was educated in the Ionia school and at Notre Dame. Going out from Ionia as a member of Co. I, Michigan infantry in the Spanish-American war, he served later with the 15th U. S. infantry, being in the service from May 1898, to March 1903.
"He saw service in the Cuban campaign, in China during the Boxer rebellion and in the Philippines insurrection campaign. He has been a member of the United Spanish War Veterans. May 16, 1903 he was married to Bertha E. Wellwood of Bushnell township, Montcalm county. Surviving him are his wife, a son, Leslie H. Rice of Detroit, and two daughters, Elizabeth the wife of Ed Belcher of Rudyard and Thelma, the wife of Harold Hill of Ionia. Another daughter, Evelyn M. preceded him in death. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and one nephew, Wm. B. Rice of Mt. Clemens. ...4 " He was buried at Easton Cemetery, Ionia, MI.2
     The Rice Gen'l Register states incorrectly that he never married.1 He resided in 1896 at Ionia, Ionia Co, MI.2 He was a trolley engineer in 1917 at Pontiac, MI.2

In the 1891 census he declared age 86.2,3,1,4 He was the son of Silas Rice and Sarah Kniffen. This was the 1st marriage for Henry Allen Rice and Zebudah Rice, daughter of Thomas Rice and Martha Potter.5 Henry Allen Rice married Leonora Sabrina Chute, daughter of Aaron Chute and Eunice Woodworth, on 12 July 1880 at Hillsburgh, Digby Co, NS; (1881 per Rice Gen'l Register)
aged 68y (he) and 35y (she) listed as Allan Rice, widower, and Norah Chute, spinster, both born Hillsburgh.6,1 Henry Allen Rice died in September 1892.7

Henry James Rice was baptized on 29 March 1829 at Annapolis County, NS.4 He married Elizabeth Helen Morse, daughter of Abner Morse, on 6 December 1865 at her father's home, Clements, Annapolis Co, NS. This was the 2nd marriage for Elizabeth Helen Morse; by W M Godfrey. Henry James Rice was a bachelor of the Parish of Annapolis and Elizabeth Morse was a widow of the Parish of Clements.2,1,5,6 Henry James Rice died on 4 April 1897 at Annapolis Royal, Annapolis Co, NS.7 The estate was probated on 15 March 1899 at Bridgetown, Annapolis Co, NS; with a letter of administration to widow Elizabeth H Rice.
