Elizabeth Rice was born on 15 July 1794 at Hillsburgh, Digby Co, NS. Obviously either Elizabeth or George's birth date is in error. Your author has recorded them as they appear in the Rice Gen'l Register.1 She was the daughter of Silas Rice and Sarah Kniffen. Elizabeth Rice married William Berry, son of Thomas Berry, on 30 May 1820.1 Elizabeth Rice died in February 1877 at Nova Scotia.3
Her married name was Berry. She and William Berry resided at Bear River, Digby Co, NS, lived on the Sissiboo Road where there was only a footpath to Bear River. The history of Digby County describes Elizabeth walking to town holding the hands of her two small sons. The Sissiboo Road is on the west side of Bear River, in what is now Digby County.4,3 There is some confusion in Ms McCormick's birth dates for William and Elizabeth. In one manuscript she gives William, b Dec 25, 1794 and Elizabeth, b 1794. In the other manuscript she gives no birth date for William and Elizabeth, b July 15, 1794. The Rice Gen'l Register notes that they lived in Bear River, Digby, NS.
