Ebenezer Rice was born on 6 November 1743 at Westborough, MA.4,1,2,3 He was the son of Ebenezer Rice and Anna Rice. Ebenezer Rice married Tabitha Balcom, daughter of Joseph Balcom and Deborah Boice, before 1770. Your author has searched in vain for the marriage of Ebenezer Rice and Tabitha Balcom in Sudbury, MA and surrounding communities and at Annapolis, NS. The Rice Genealogical Register and McCormick 1975 list their marriage year as 1778 which your author considers very unlikely.
The 1770 census for Annapolis lists Ebenezer Jnr (III) Rice with three in his household, two American and one Acadian. We can assume that he and Tabitha Balcom had been married for at least one year and had one child.
Note that Ebenezer Jnr (III) was not listed in the 1768 census but was a signer of the 30 October 1765 petition for the Grant of Confirmation of the Township of Annapolis (see Savary, p 105). It is possible that he returned to Massachusetts for a time between 1765 and 1770 and might even have married Tabitha in Massachusetts, so your author doesn't list Nova Scotia as their place of marriage.5,3,2 Ebenezer Rice died in 1795.6
He resided after 1760 at Annapolis Royal, Annapolis Co, NS.7,8 He left a will on 2 September 1795 at Annapolis Royal, Annapolis Co, NS, listing his wife Tabitha and children Jonas, Levy(sic), Ann, and Sarah. This is our first indication that he had a daughter Sarah.6

On page 839, the Rice Gen'l Register lists him as Edward Rice Jr with date of birth as 1869 and place of birth as Chicago, IL. Because of inconsistencies in the p 839 record: as Edward Woodroffe he would not be a junior, his parents were known to have settled in the Worcester MA area, and the birth date is incomplete, your author has elected to go with the p 629 record and assign a "0" confidence on the Chicago place of birth. The 1891 census does give his place of birth as USA.2,1 He was the son of Edward Rice and Martha Woodruff.1 Edward Woodroffe Rice married Minnie Frances Chesley, daughter of Rupert George Chesley and Ada Brown, on 14 September 1904 at Clarence, Annapolis Co, NS.3,4 Edward Woodroffe Rice died on 11 September 1916 at Bridgetown, Annapolis Co, NS.5

Elizabeth Rice was born on 15 July 1794 at Hillsburgh, Digby Co, NS. Obviously either Elizabeth or George's birth date is in error. Your author has recorded them as they appear in the Rice Gen'l Register.1 She was the daughter of Silas Rice and Sarah Kniffen. Elizabeth Rice married William Berry, son of Thomas Berry, on 30 May 1820.1 Elizabeth Rice died in February 1877 at Nova Scotia.3
She and William Berry resided at Bear River, Digby Co, NS, lived on the Sissiboo Road where there was only a footpath to Bear River. The history of Digby County describes Elizabeth walking to town holding the hands of her two small sons. The Sissiboo Road is on the west side of Bear River, in what is now Digby County.4,3 There is some confusion in Ms McCormick's birth dates for William and Elizabeth. In one manuscript she gives William, b Dec 25, 1794 and Elizabeth, b 1794. In the other manuscript she gives no birth date for William and Elizabeth, b July 15, 1794. The Rice Gen'l Register notes that they lived in Bear River, Digby, NS.
