Mary E Miller was born circa 1853 at Hillsburgh, Digby Co, NS.2 She was the daughter of William Miller.2 Mary E Miller married 1st Herbert Rice, son of Aaron Rice and Anne Aymar, on 7 December 1873 at Hillsburgh, Digby Co, NS.3,4
Your author has not assigned Mary Miller as the mother of any of Burpee Balcom's children. From the will it appears that Burpee may have been first married to a Parker and that Melbourne and Edith may have been offspring of that marriage. It would further appear that the other Balcom children are the offspring of Mary E Miller. Direct descendants should consult the 1881 Canada census for Paradise, Annapolis County.5
