Stanley Muray Martin

     Stanley Muray Martin was born on 17 January 1896 at Gillingham, co Kent, England.1 He married Alice Maud Gay on 6 March 1918 at 1156 Chapman Street, Victoria, BC.2 Stanley Muray Martin died on 9 April 1985 at Victoria, BC.1 He was buried at Hatley Memorial Gardens, Victoria, BC.
     He immigrated in 1908 to Canada aboard the SS Kensington. He was in the military with the Royal Canadian Army in France during the Great War (World War 1.) He was employed by the New Method Laundry for 47 years. He resided at 2119 Chambers Street, Victoria, BC.
     June (Martin) Perry recalls: He was sent out from England to reinforce the Victoria Citadel. He played for 53 years with the Citadel Band. He conducted the Citadel Boys Band for 25 years. William Telfer who was one of his students plays with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. He devoted his whole life to God and the Salvation Army.
"Devoted to his wife he cared for her for years when she was sick. He painted his house outside very, very often, even in his later years. Eventually he went senile and, like many elderly people suffering from dementia, became difficult to handle.

     Emeline McClure was born on 17 November 1838 at Albany, Albany Co, NY.1,2,3 She was the daughter of Archibald McClure and Susan Tracy Rice. Emeline McClure married Thomas Olcott, son of Thomas Worth Olcott and Caroline Dwight Pepoon, on 19 February 1863.2,3 Emeline McClure died on 28 May 1909.4
     Her married name was Olcott.
