     John Frude Jr was born in 1834 at Wilmot, Annapolis Co, NS.4 He was the son of John Freude and Martha Ann Hines. John Frude Jr married Mary Berry, daughter of William Berry and Elizabeth Rice, on 13 September 1859 at Bear River, NS.5 John Frude Jr died on 13 March 1882 at Bear River, NS.4
     He was a cooper.5 According to Ms McCormick: John came from Wilmot to visit friends, met Mary, married her and remained here (Bear River). They lived on the Sissiboo Road and he was killed in the woods when a tree fell on him. He is reported to have been well educated, and his services were much in demand in drawing up legal documents such as deeds and wills.6 He and Mary Berry resided between 1859 and 1882 at Sissiboo Road, Bear River, Digby Co, NS.6 John Frude Jr and Mary Berry appeared on the census of 1881 at Hillsburgh District, Digby Co, NS; John Frude, male, married, age 47, born Nova Scotia, Occ: Cooper; Mary Frude, female, married, age 45, born Nova Scotia; Anna Frude, female, age 17, born Nova Scotia; Charles Frude, male, age 15, born Nova Scotia; Elisapth Frude, female, age 9, born Nova Scotia; Burton Frude, male, age 4, born Nova Scotia.7
