     Gilbert Ray Bent was born on 22 June 1826 at Granville, Annapolis Co, NS, (January 1825 per gravestone.)1,2,3 He was the son of Warren Bent and Frances Shafner.1 Gilbert Ray Bent married Crusa A. Cook, daughter of Clark Cook and Louisa Maria Allen, on 1 January 1859 at Chelsea, MA; aged 32y (he) and 19y (she) listed as Gilbert of North Reading and Crusa of Mendon.4,2 Gilbert Ray Bent married Mary Caroline Grout, daughter of Rufus Grout and Huldah Wood, on 21 February 1866 at Pelham, MA; aged 41y (he) and 27y (she) listed as G R of Bellingham and M C of Pelham, his second marriage.5,2 Gilbert Ray Bent married Mary Abbie McIntire, daughter of Samuel Augustus McIntire and Sarah White Dawson, on 16 February 1897 at Boston, MA; aged 70y (he) and 43y (she) listed as Gilbert of North Reading and Mary of Salem, his third marriage.6 Gilbert Ray Bent married Mary Elizabeth Claxton, daughter of James M. Claxton and Mary E. Munn, on 12 February 1908 at Salem, MA; aged 83y (he) and 45y (she) under the name Oldson, both of Salem, his fourth marriage, her second.7 Gilbert Ray Bent died on 4 September 1915 at Salem, MA; aged 90y 7m 13d, from heart disease.8 He was buried on 8 September 1915 at Harmony Vale Cemetery, North Reading, MA.3,8
     He served as a chaplain with the U.S. Christian Commission in the US Civil War.2 He was a Methodist minister at several parishes, mostly in New England.2 He graduated in 1854 at Methodist General Biblical Institute, Concord, NH.2 He appeared on the census of 1880 at Walpole, MA; aged 55y.9 He resided circa 1900 at North Reading, MA.2

It is more likely that he was living in the Medford suburb of Boston.      Joseph Bent was born circa 1771, the gravestone transcription suggests the year as 1762.2,3 He was the son of David Bent and Mary Felch. Joseph Bent married Ann Longley, daughter of Israel Longley and Anna Kent, on 10 January 1793 at Upper District, Granville, Annapolis Co, NS.4,2,5 Joseph Bent died on 9 December 1831; the gravestone record says: at age 69 years.6,3 He was buried in 1832 at Bent Cemetery, Upper Granville, Annapolis Co, NS.3
     He left a will on 15 December 1831 at Granville, Annapolis Co, NS, which was recorded 15 January 1832. The will mentions wife Ann; sons Warren, Israel, Joseph Fletcher, William Bennett, Gilbert, and John; son-in-law Aaron Eaton; and married daughters Lucy Willett, Amelia Ray, Susan Fellows, and Mary Eaton.6

     Rev Joseph Fletcher Bent was born on 26 April 1806 at Granville, Annapolis Co, NS.1,2 He was the son of Joseph Bent and Ann Longley.1 Rev Joseph Fletcher Bent married Sarah Berry, daughter of James Berry, on 5 November 1833 at Saint Andrews, Charlotte Co, NB.3 Rev Joseph Fletcher Bent died on 19 March 1893 at Bentville, Annapolis Co, NS; at age 86 years 10 months 21 days.4 He was buried at Riverview Cemetery, Bridgetown, Annapolis Co, NS.4
     He left a will on 11 August 1892 at Bentville, Annapolis Co, NS, which was recorded 27 March 1893. Mentioned in the will were: Children: Amelia Ray Bent, Mary Emma Bent, Sarah Ann wife of William F.S. Wilson, Susannah Berry wife of E. Hennigar Tupper and Joseph Benson Bent.
