     Ambrose Bent was born circa 1797.2 He was the son of Asa Bent and Lois Tupper. Ambrose Bent married Susan Balcom on 16 June 1821 at Annapolis, Annapolis Co, NS; no children.1,3 Ambrose Bent died on 12 July 1870; at age 73.4,2 He was buried at Round Hill Cemetery, Round Hill, Annapolis Co, NS.2
     He left a will on 26 April 1869 at Bentville, Annapolis Co, NS, which was recorded 5 August 1870. The will mentions wife Susan and nephew Edward Eliakim. He died 12 July 1870.4

Arthur Reinforth Bent

     Arthur Reinforth Bent was born on 29 November 1868 at Kentville, Kings Co, NS.1 He was the son of John Zenus Bent and Famichie Gesner. Arthur Reinforth Bent was baptized on 23 May 1869 at Bridgetown, Annapolis Co, NS; name recorded as Arthur Rainford Bent.2 He married Annie Elizabeth Porter, daughter of John Porter and Mary Ovenston, on 3 April 1897 at Victoria, BC; they were married in the old Methodist Church, corner of Pandora Avenue and Broad Street, then used as a Salvation Army barracks. Mr. Bent was the band sergeant and Annie Porter a cornet player. Adjutant Clark read the Salvation Army Marriage Service. Married at 8:00 on a Saturday night.3 Arthur Reinforth Bent died on 12 April 1939 at Victoria, BC; of coronary thrombosis and arteriosclerosis at his home at 2533 Prior Street on Wednesday morning.4 He was buried at Ross Bay Cemetery.
     He appeared on the census of 1881 at Carleton's Corner District, Annapolis Co, NS; with his parents.5 He and Annie Elizabeth Porter resided in May 1915 at 2574 Graham Street, Victoria, BC.6
     He was saved for Jesus Christ at Bridgetown, N.S. He first went to Tacoma, Washington, then to Victoria, British Columbia in 1891. He played in the Salvation Army band in 1893 or earlier. He was a Band Sergeant for a long period and later Bandmaster. He was a blacksmith for 30 years, his last working day was April 11, 1939. He attended the first Army meeting in 1887. At his funeral Brigadier Junker did service and Stan Martin assisted. He was a member of Court Caribou, Independent Order of Foresters.

Asa Bent married Ann Busby on 16 June 1825 at Bridgetown, Annapolis Co, NS; (1832 per Bent) by Banns this 16th day of June 1825 by Sampson Bushy, Wesleyan Missionary.4,5,2 The estate was probated on 15 February 1853 at Annapolis, Annapolis Co, NS; with a letter of assignment to widow Ann Bent and Elias Bent of Annapolis. Ann Bent, Elias Bent, Davis Bent and Isaac Bent signed the letter of petition for the letter of assignment. Letter of guardianship for Ralph Bent and John Bent minor heirs.6
     Asa Bent was also known as Asaph Bent.1

     Asa Bent was born on 10 February 1830 at Annapolis, Annapolis Co, NS, Calnek is uncertain if Asa Bent is a son of Asa and Ann Bent. Asa senior's will and estate probate provide compelling evidence that he is indeed a son of Asa and Ann Bent.2,3 He was the son of Asa Bent and Ann Busby. Asa Bent married Mary Jane Felch, daughter of John Felch and Isabel (?), on 8 November 1877 at Bridgetown, Annapolis Co, NS; aged 49y (he) and 50y (she) listed as Asa of Bentville and Mary of Round Hill.4 Asa Bent died on 8 August 1897.3 He was buried at Round Hill Cemetery, Round Hill, Annapolis Co, NS.3
     He and Mary Jane Felch appeared on the census of 1881 at Carleton's Corner District, Annapolis Co, NS; Asa Bent, male, age 51, born Nova Scotia, Occ: Farmer; Mary J. Bent, female, age 52, born Nova Scotia.5 Asa Bent left a will on 1 May 1895 at Bentville, Annapolis Co, NS, wife: Mary Jane Bent. Left estate : "to Ida Mary Walker", "to my brother Busby Bent" and "to my sister Albena Bartlett". Page 24 Aug 1897, will contested, heirs want will proved again. He died 8 Aug 1897. Long legal battle as two brothers felt he was not of sound mind. Notwithstanding there is a lot of data in the estate papers: widow Mary Jane Bent was aged about 70; adopted daughter Ida May Walker, aged 21, spinster was adopted from the Poor House in 1875 when she was aged nine years; sister Albina Bartlett aged 69, widow lived in Chelsea, Mass; brother Ralph Bent of Tupperville aged about 62; John Z. Bent, of Boston, aged about 60. Children of Eliakim Bent half brother of Asa: Edward E. Bent of Bentville about 50 and Lois Leavitt wife of E.A. Leavitt of Sandwich, Illinois. Two other half brothers Ambrose Bent and Elias Bent deceased, no issue. Children of half sister Mary Warner "died a few years ago": William Warner of Nictaux, mason, aged about 50; Phebe Whitman wife of Edward Whitman of Tupperville, aged about 40; Halhe Hazard married living somewhere in Rhode Island; Elizabeth Morgan wife of Charles Morgan living somewhere in US. Brother Busby Bent of New Hampshire.6

     Beriah Bent was born on 11 February 1788 at Annapolis Royal, Annapolis Co, NS.2 He was the son of Micah Bent and Abigail Harrington.1 Beriah Bent married Lovejoy Parker on 1 February 1808.3,1,4 Beriah Bent died circa 1821; he was a sea captain who sailed on 1 November 1820 and was never heard from again.5 The estate was probated on 2 June 1822 at Annapolis, Annapolis Co, NS; with a letter of administration to his widow Lovejoy "for the estate of Beriah Bent of Annapolis, gentleman". Your authors note that no children were named in the letter of administration and that other sources say that there were no children of this marriage.5

     Charlotte Bent was born on 22 December 1811 at New Albany, Annapolis Co, NS.1 She was the daughter of Beriah Bent and Lovejoy Parker.1 Charlotte Bent died on 29 June 1822.1

     Charlotte Amelia Bent was born circa 1843 at Saint Mary's Bay, Digby Co, NS, as calculated from the marriage record. She was the daughter of William B. Bent and Charlotte Hardwick. Charlotte Amelia Bent married Ansel B. Holdworth on 21 June 1866 at Digby, Digby Co, NS; aged 24y (he) and 23y (she) both of Digby.1,2
     Her married name was Holdworth.
