Suggests that Asa had a son before 1827 and that a daughter, Catherine Martha?, died before 1827. Asa Graham and Mary Catherine Conrad appeared on the census of 1860 at Ward 2, Salem, MA.8

Henry Green1

FatherBenjamin Green Esq2 b. 31 Jul 1739, d. 2 Dec 1793
MotherSusanna Wenman b. 1761, d. 12 Apr 1841
     Henry Green was born circa 1780.3 He was baptized on 21 June 1781 at St Paul's Anglican Church, Halifax, Halifax Co, Nova Scotia.1 He and Rosanna Graham lived after 1804 at Lawrencetown, Halifax Co, Nova Scotia.1 Henry Green married Rosanna Graham, daughter of John Graham and Mary Scott, on 1 December 1804 at St Paul's Anglican Church, Halifax, Halifax Co, Nova Scotia.4
Henry Green was an Ensign in the Nova Scotia Regiment when it was disbanded in 1802 (Akins). Other reports indicate he was later a Lieutenant. He settled on his father's property at Lawrencetown, Halifax County and cleared a farm there. According to the census of 1827 there were 4 males, 7 females and no hired laborers at his farm in Lawrencetown; 20 acres cultivated land producing 50 bushels of grain, 400 bushels of potatoes and 20 tons hay; 2 horses, 14 horned cattle, 20 sheep and 10 swine. In the census of 1838 there were 1 male under 14, 2 males above 14, 4 females over 14 in addition to Henry. In the census of 1851, there were one female under 10, and a male and a female over 50. Henry was actively involved in projects to recover land in Cole Harbour through dyking and was considered a progressive and active member of the community. In 1840 he thought he had a cure for cancer and had received testimonials from persons who claimed they had been cured. He petitioned the Assembly for money to go to England to advertise and market the cure, but the Assembly noted that if the product would do all that was claimed for it, there would be no need for government funds to back the venture. In 1844 Henry was Commissioner for Sewers which means he was responsible for all waterways in the district. He resigned from this position in 1846 due to ill health.1
Henry Green left a will on 26 August 1853; Henry appointed his sons John Henry Green of New Brunswick and Wentworth Green of East Boston, County of Suffolk, Mass. as the executors of his estate. Of twelve hundred acres of land he had purchased from his mother Susanna, situated on the east side of Lake Porter, he left five hundred acres to Wentworth, three hundred and fifty acres to J. H. Green and the balance to Benjamin Pyke Green of Dartmouth. To his beloved daughters Isabella, Ann, Susan, Sophia, Elizabeth and Margaret "I give one shilling each, all of them already being well provided for". "To my beloved wife I give nothing knowing full well that she will be provided for by her children".1 He died on 30 August 1853 at East Boston, MA; at age 73.3

James Graham1

M, b. circa 1710
     James Graham was born circa 1710 at Ireland.2      Little is known about the ancestry of James Graham or Rosanna MacLaughlin. In fact, one author has his name as Joseph Graham and wife Rose. According to Mrs Grace L (Graham) Medinus:
     "James Graham Born 1710 ... was in Halifax for the first drawing of Lotts (sic). In the Crown Land Grants and also the Recorder's office his Lott is J18 in the South Suburbs. The clerk of the time entered the name phonetically James Grimes which is corrected in the Memorial #58, page 335, second book of Halifax Recorders office, when at 4 o'clock the afternoon April 12-1754 he gave 7 pounds sterling, his interest in a boat, his Lott J18 on Windmill St (Ft. Massey) to John Walker for Walker's Lot E4 in the South Suburbs facing on Halifax Harbour. This Lott of Walker's E4 is in the First Book of Halifax IN: (unreadable) South Suburbs, page 57 Recorders office and also Crown Land Grants, Provincial Bldg., The E4 water front lott (the Harbout (sic) of Halifax) was held by James Graham until he sold it to Thos. Bridge a merchant of Halifax for 10 pounds sterling on 13 November 1770. It is in the Recorder's Book Noll (sic. No. 11) page 25 and witnessed by Turner Harwood and Susanna Bridge, and the release bears the name James Graham of 3Fathom (sic) Harbour and his wife Rosanna Graham. James and Rosanna Graham and their son John were on their Grant at 3Fathom Harbour for some years. The Grant is in the Crown Land Books Provincial Bldg., and when granted was 250 acres and of the Township of Lawrencetown, which had been surveyed by Charles Morris and granted to 20 Proprietors in the first division of Lawrencetown (ed note: 10 June 1754).
     "In Book 17 page 339, the 22 August 1781 on oath of Robert Collins Benjamin Green to James Graham, 1387 acres 3 Fathom Harbour the northwestern-most part of 3Fathom Harbour the second and last division of Lawrencetown, in the 21st., year of his Majesty's Reign and signed by Benjamin Green and Sarah Green."
     According to Mrs Medinus, James' grandfather was "the renowned Captain Graham". However, we have no record of James birth or of the births of Captain Graham's sons. Family tradition also says that James and Rosanna sailed from Ireland in their own ship and landed at Three Fathom Harbour in 1741. It is much more likely that they first arrived at Halifax, NS about 1749 as we have a record of James receiving a grant of land at Halifax in 1749. Given the hostility between the English-speaking settlers and the French-speaking settlers at the time, your author considers it extremely unlikely that English-speaking settlers could have survived at unprotected Three Fathom Harbour before the founding of Halifax in 1749.3 He married Rosanna MacLaughlin.2 James Graham and Rosanna MacLaughlin resided circa 1754 at Halifax, Halifax Co, Nova Scotia. It appears that James and Rosanna owned land in both Halifax and Three Fathom Harbour although they probably lived at Three Fathom Harbour sometime after 1754 when the Crown Grant Land was first surveyed.3
     According to Douglas William Trider in his 1999 History of Dartmouth and Halifax Harbour 1418 to 1800, Vol 1: Benjamin Greene sold 1387 acres of land to James Graham, yeoman, for £40. This was also part of the grant, part 13, of the Three Fathom Harbour grant called the second and last division of Lawrencetown granted in 1781.

     A James A Graham, age 20, a carpenter, is enumerated in the 1881 census in the household of Gasper and Isabella Graham. We have no other record of a James Graham in this family. It would be helpful to find the Gasper Graham family in the 1871 census to verify James. Jasper Frederick Graham was also known as Gasper Graham.3 He was born on 31 October 1822.4 He married Sarah Ann Powell, daughter of David Powell and Margaret (?), on 31 December 1850 at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Halifax, Halifax Co, Nova Scotia; by Rev. Graham, Three Fathom Harbour to Miss Sarah Ann Powell, of Barrington."5 We believe that this is the family enumerated in the 1851 census for District 28, Three Fathom Harbour as: Gasper Graham, 1 house, 1 family, 1 male, 1 female age 20 - 30. Jasper Frederick Graham and Sarah Ann Powell appeared on the census of 1861 at Dartmouth, Halifax Co, Nova Scotia; with four males and three females in the household.6 Jasper Frederick Graham appeared on the census of 1871 at Dartmouth, Halifax Co, Nova Scotia; as a widower.7 He married Isabella Isnor, daughter of James Isnor and Elizabeth (?), on 23 May 1871 at Grace Methodist Church, Dartmouth, Halifax Co, Nova Scotia.8 Jasper Frederick Graham and Isabella Isnor appeared on the census of 1881 at Dartmouth, Halifax Co, Nova Scotia; Gasper Graham, married, male, age 56, Scottish, born Nova Scotia, Occ: Carpenter, Religion: Presbyterian;
Isabella Graham, female, married, age 33, Scottish, born Nova Scotia, Religion: C. Methodist;
